Important Contest Information
- Participants must be age 15 or under. Participants under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. All parents are invited to attend.
- All partipants must complete the registration form and parental permission slip/waiver must be returned to their child's school office no late than Monday, January 20th.
- Bus transportation will be provided by the Garfield County School District 16 for participants and accompaning parents. Buses will depart from Bea Underwood Elementary School promptly at 10 AM, Saturday, January 25th. Parents may elect to provide personal transportation to Mesa Lake Lodge for their child.
- A free lunch will be provided at the Mesa Lakes Lodge upon arrival.
- Clothing: It will be cold so you must dress accordingly. Layered, warm clothing is recommended. Hats, gloves and adequate foot wear are absolutely necessary. Sunglasses, face coverings, scarves and hand warmers are suggested. You may also consider bringing a back pack with additional clothing/blanket/snacks/drinks.
- Fishing Equipment: You should bring a pole, reel with line, hooks/jigs/weights and bait. If you need any of these items, note it on your registration form and we will provide it for you.
- You may want to bring a folding chair, bucket or some other apparatus to sit on while fishing. You may keep two fish if you choose. If so, bring a bag or small cooler to transport your fish home with you. We will provide a warming fire on the shore of Sunset Lake if you need to warm up.
- GVCG volunteers will dig your fishing holes for you and be available to assist you if you need help. They will also count and measure your fish. Safety equipment will be on site.
- The fishing contest will commence following lunch at approximately 12 noon and end at 2 PM. Trophies will be awarded for the largest (length) fish caught and the most fish caught within the two hour contest.
